Ultimate Relaxation in Glenwood Springs, CO

Iron Mountain Hot Springs

At Iron Mountain Hot Springs, I saw 16 soaking pools spread out before me. They were inviting me to relax.  I choose to start off by entering a 99 degree F. pool named Topaz. The mineral water felt very soft on my skin and the temperature was perfect to begin my afternoon of relaxation.

Soaking there, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful red rock mountains covered in spring green vegetation.  In the distance, there was someone fishing on the river bank.  As I took a deep breath, I noticed that the air was clean and cool.  Life was good.

After taking a break in the cool mountain air and getting a refreshing drink, it was time to try out Garnet, the infinity pool. It’s temperature was 108 degrees F.  I entered into the pool slowly, giving my body a chance to adjust.   Looking down at the Colorado River, I watched a pair of Canadian geese lovingly guide their fuzzy goslings down the swiftly flowing water. A young Marmot nervously scurried past, on the river bank. Unlike him, any tension left in my body quickly melted away.

Iron Mountain hot springs is a place where you can relax for the entire day. Even though at the present time, there are no message treatments offered, it definitely felt like I was at a spa.  Soaking in its therapeutic waters and enjoying its beautiful natural surroundings left me totally refreshed and rejuvenated.

Yampah Spa
The Hot Springs Vapor Caves

Even though there were many massages and other therapeutic treatments available, I choose to only visit the vapor caves.  Let me describe my experience.

First, I felt the warm humid air enter my lungs and soften my skin.  The air had an earthy yet inoffensive quality. I passed by four dark, intimate recessed sitting areas and reached the back of the cave. It was larger, dimly lit with multiple sitting areas.   As I laid still, I began to hear therapeutic water droplets gently landing on the cave floor.  Occasionally, a soft gurgle was heard, as air escaped from hot pools of mineral water.

I could feel my pores opening, allowing the thermal air to wash toxins from my skin.  It felt natural as I inhaled slowly and deeply to let the warm vapor enter into my lungs.

Laying there, I noticed the ancient beige and cream colored cave walls. They had been transformed into artwork by eons of time. I felt connected with those in the past, who also visited this special on Earth and felt blessed.

Have you visited Yampah Vapor Caves or Iron Mountain Hot Springs?  What was your experience like?  Let me know. I would love to hear from you.
